ABOUT
Dr. Anousha Sedighi is Associate Professor of Persian and the coordinator of the Persian program at Portland State University. She received her Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Ottawa in 2005. She is the current president of the American Association of Teachers of Persian and serves in the Executive Board of the National Council on Less Commonly Taught Languages. Her areas of research are Persian linguistics, Persian language pedagogy, and Persian as a heritage language. She has published articles on syntax, morphology, and teaching Persian as a heritage language. She is currently editing the Oxford Handbook of Persian Linguistics with Pouneh Shabani-Jadidi. Her recent book Persian in Use: An Elementary Textbook of Language and Culture was published in 2015 by Leiden University Press and Co-published by University of Chicago Press. Her first book Agreement Restrictions in Persian was published in 2008 by Rozenberg & Purdue University Press and re-published in 2011 by Leiden University and University of Chicago Press. Her book adopts Chomsky’s Minimalist Program to examine Persian language agreement patterns. Dr. Sedighi is the co-designer of the Persian Proficiency Assessment Tool, a computer-based proficiency test developed at the Center for Applied Second Language Studies at the University of Oregon.
