ABOUT
Nora Fisher-Onar is Assistant Professor of International Studies at the University of San Francisco.
Her research interests include IR and social theory, Turkey & Middle East Studies, political ideologies, gender, and foreign policy analysis.
Fisher-Onar, who speaks five languages, received her doctorate in IR from Oxford and holds masters and undergraduate degrees in international affairs from Johns Hopkins (SAIS) and Georgetown universities, respectively.
Fisher-Onar is author of the forthcoming monograph, "Pluralism in Turkey: Islam, Liberalism, and Nationalism" (Cambridge University Press) and editor of "Istanbul: Living With Difference in a Global City (Rutgers UP, 2018 - co-edited with Susan Pearce & Fuat Keyman). She has published extensively in academic journals like Conflict and Cooperation, Middle East Studies, Millennium, Qualitative and Multi-Method Research, Theory and Society, Turkish Studies and Women’s Studies International Forum.
She also speaks at policy fora like Brookings, Carnegie, and the German Marshall Fund (GMF) where she has served as a Ronald Asmus Fellow, Transatlantic Academy Fellow, and Non-Residential Fellow. Fisher Onar has contributed editorials to platforms like the Washington Post, Foreign Affairs, the Guardian, and OpenDemocracy.
