ABOUT
Irène Carpentier is currently a research and teaching assistant (ATER) at INALCO (National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations), after a post-doctorate at CNRS within the framework of ERC TARICA. She is also an associate researcher at the LADYSS -Paris 1. Since 2018, she holds a PhD in geography from the University Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, conducted within LADYSS and IRMC (Research Institute on Contemporary Maghreb). Her thesis focused on new forms of territorial valorisation in southern oases of Tunisia, and proposed a reflection on the questioning of agricultural development models and natural resource management in the post-2011 context. Her research experience combines work on the dynamics of agricultural and rural territories; public policies of agricultural resources management in Tunisia and Morocco, and work in electoral analysis and local governance, through an analysis of the local impacts of decentralisation process in Tunisia, -within the framework of international programs (ANR ALMIRA, ZERKA-ENVIMED, PROCELEC, ERC TARICA). Her current work focuses on questioning the link between political stakes, sustainable development models, and rural territories dynamics on a local scale. More specifically, it aims at studying the challenges related to the integration of new "economic and social innovations" in the definition of agricultural policies and in socio-territorial dynamics in North Africa (Morocco-Tunisia). Few selected publications -Carpentier I., Gana A., 2017, “Changing agricultural practices in the oases of southern Tunisia: conflict and competition for resources in a post-revolutionary and globalisation context”, Oases and Globalization.
