ABOUT
Christian Junge is assistant professor (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) in the field of modern Arabic literature and culture at the CNMS since 2015. He studied Comparative Literature and Arabic Studies in Berlin, Paris and Cairo. From 2008 to 2011, he was lecturer at the Seminar for Semitic and Arabic Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin. From 2011 to 2015 he was fellow of the Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School of Literary Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin, where he received his PhD on literature and language thinking in the work of in the work of al-Shidy?q (d. 1887). His recent book project deals with emotions and affects in contemporary Egyptian literature from 1990 to 2020. He is fellow of the Arab German Young Academy (agya.info), co-director of the international programm „Arabische Philologien im Blickwechsel“ (arabic-philologies.de/en) and founding member of the project „Für ein lebendiges Wissenschaftsarabisch: Halqa arabiyya“ at the CNMS. His latest publications include the book-length study "Die Entblößung der Wörter. al-Shidyaqs literarische Listen als Kultur- und Gesellschaftskritik im 19. Jahrhundert.
