ABOUT
Elisa Pierandrei is an Italian journalist, author and filmmaker with over twenty years of experience. She holds a master's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the American University in Cairo (2002), after graduating in Arabic Language and Literature at Ca' Foscari University in Venice (1998). More recently, her articles have appeared in the magazines D la Repubblica, il venerdì di Repubblica, as well as online on AlJEnglish, Contemporary And (C&), Al-Monitor, and The New Arab, among others. Publication highlights include the series of ebooks 'Urban Cairo. La Primavera araba dei graffiti' (InformAnt | eBook Quotidiani editore, 2012 and 2014) and 'Painting, Photography, Drawing. From Africa and Its Diaspora' (Self Publisher, 2022); and her most recent essay “Photography and Heritage: Van Leo Black and White Studio Portraits, 1940s-1970s” published in the academic journal I.S. MED. 2/2023 (Mimesis International). Elisa Pierandrei has extensively lived and travelled across the Arab region, and reported for the media on the wave of protests termed the 'Arab Spring'. In collaboration with photographer Loris Savino and videomaker Marco di Noia, along with the contribution of Luca Quagliato, she co-authored the 2011 short documentary “M.A.R.E., storie di Mediterraneo, Arabi, rivolte ed Europa,” about the mutated political situation along the borders of three countries of the Mare Nostrum. She regularly gives academic seminars at various institutions.
