ABOUT
I am Assistant Professor of Political Science and Student Affairs Coordinator, School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Al-Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI). I gained a PhD in Political Science from Syracuse University - Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs with fields of concentration in Comparative Politics and International Relations, with regional focus on Middle East Politics.
My main areas of research and interests are Islamism and political Islam (in particular Arab Salafism), critical theories (especially with regards to Gramscian studies and theories), postcolonial politics, international relations theory, social and political mobilization, and politics of development.
I have experience in higher education teaching, having offered a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses spanning across academic disciplines (besides political science, also sociology, history, philosophy and political economy) in the US, Jordan, Pakistan and Morocco. I have acquired experience in academic administration during my tenure as Assistant Dean for the School or Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Habib University.
Outside my academic roles, I write on and collaborate regularly with Italian media and think tanks about current events and political, historical and economic dynamics. I have also spoken at public events in Italy, US, Pakistan and Jordan.
I am fluent in English and Italian, and advanced in Arabic and French.
