ABOUT
Mariam Rahmani is a Candidate for the PhD in Comparative Literature at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her dissertation, “Gender in Translation: Posing the Question of the Queer via Contemporary Iran,” asks whether queerness translates across language and culture. She is currently working on a translation from Persian/Farsi into English of Mahsa Mohebali’s Don’t Worry (orig. Nigar?n nab?sh: Tehran, 2008), supported by a 2018 PEN/Heim translation grant and forthcoming with Feminist Press (exp. 2021). She holds a BA in Comparative Literature from Princeton University and an MSt in Islamic Art from the University of Oxford. Her writing has appeared in BOMB Magazine, the Los Angeles Review of Books, The Rumpus, and Gulf Coast.
