Upon graduation with a Ph.D. in American Literature and feminist theory from the University of North Texas in the USA, Rula Quawas began teaching a wide array of undergraduate and graduate courses pertaining to American Literature and feminist theory in the English Department at the University of Jordan. Rula is presently a Professor of American literature and feminist theory at the same university. She is the first one to introduce and teach feminist theory graduate courses in the English Department. She is also the first to introduce and be engaged in global module courses which focus on intercultural communication. Moreover, Rula teaches Arab feminisms and contemporary Arab women writers in translation to study abroad students. She was the founding Director of the Women’s Studies Center at the University of Jordan, and she was also the Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages at the same university. Currently, Rula is a Fulbright scholar at Champlain College in the USA. Rula’s research focuses on feminist readings of American and Arabic texts written by women writers. She has written and published numerous essays in English on American as well as on Arab women writers. She has additionally co-authored three communication-skill textbooks which were used for freshmen courses at the university for thirteen years. She has recently authored a book on Jordanian women short story writers and she also authored and co-edited a book on Intercultural Communication. She also serves on many editorial boards such as the Journal of Women’s Entrepreneurship and Education, Studies in Literature in English, and the International Journal of Arabic-English Studies. Rula was honored as a distinguished international scholar in the USA, and she was also awarded the Meritorious Honor Award for Leadership and Dedication to the empowerment of Jordanian women. She was recently nominated for the International Women of Courage Award. She is often invited to give talks on Arab feminisms to American delegates who visit Jordan and to American students in the USA. Her passion for intellectually charged conversations with academics from different cultures is noted by scholars from the different corners of the globe.
