ABOUT
Glenn E. Robinson earned his PhD from UC Berkeley in 1992 from the Department of Political Science. His BA was granted by Berkeley (with Highest Honors) in 1982, and his MA from Johns Hopkins SAIS (with Distinction) in 1985. He is currently a resident senior fellow in the Center on Terrorism, Extremism and Counter-terrorism at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California, following a 30-year career at the Naval Postgraduate School from which he retired in December 2021 as Professor of Defense Analysis. He specializes in issues of collective action, political violence, state building and development. He is the author or co-author of four books and over 150 articles, book chapters, conference papers and government technical reports. He has done considerable work for USAID on development projects and assessments in the Middle East and North Africa. His most recent book, Global Jihad: A Brief History (Stanford University Press, 2021) was named a “Best Book of 2021” by both Foreign Affairs and Foreign Policy journals. Robinson has served MESA in a variety of capacities, including on CAFMENA, the Malcolm Kerr dissertation committee, the nominating committee, the program committee, and the MESA Bulletin.
