ABOUT
Jason Vivrette is the Coordinator of the Turkish Language and Literature Program at UC Berkeley. He has previously served as the Co-Director of the Middle East and Islamic Studies (MEIS) Program at San Francisco State University (2012-2014) and Co-Director of the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Summer Arabic Program in Tunis (2010-2012). He holds an M.A. in Comparative Literature from UC Berkeley (emphases in Turkish, Arabic, Persian, and Italian), and was trained in Film Production and Film Theory at the University of Southern California. His research centers on the construction of identity and space in and through literature, especially in poetry and film. In particular, he is interested in contested sites--both literary and literal--at the intersection of languages and cultures.
