ABOUT
Fabio Vicini is Assistant Professor in Sociology and Anthropology at Istanbul 29 Mayis University. Previously also PhD fellow at Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies and Zentrum Moderner Orient, he has received his PhD in Anthropology and History in 2013 from SUM Italian Institute for Humanities – University of Siena with a dissertation titled: “Islamic Education, Reasoning Practices and Civic Engagement. The Gülen and Suffa communities in Turkey.” The dissertation has won the Middle East Studies Association’s (MESA) 2013 Malcolm H. Kerr Award in the Social Sciences. Fabio Vicini's interests include Anthropology of Islam in Turkey and the Middle East, Anthropology and Sociology of Religion, Ethics, Islamic Political Philosophy, Religious and Political Movements, Anthropology of Education and Learning.
