ABOUT
A historical and political geographer, his research centers on society-state relations (esp. approaches to and modes of governance) in terms of: (1) geopolitics; (2) identity-place constructs (e.g., nationalism-territory); (3) disease and public health; (4) environment; and, (5) intoxicants and other commodities. By place and time, he concentrates on geographies of late Ottoman, nationalist, and republican Turkey. Among his publications, he has solo- and co-authored articles in journals that include: cultural geographies; Gender, Place, and Culture; Health and Place; Journal of Historical Geography; and, Political Geography.
