ABOUT
Prior to joining UCLA, Sima Ghaddar worked as a policy associate at The Century Foundation specializing in Middle Eastern Affairs. Her research focuses on identity construction, informal governance, and mechanisms of social control. Upon completing an MSc in Political Sociology at the London School of Economics (LSE), for her dissertation, Sima studied the relationship between social networks, symbolic capital, and representative political authority. Sima continues to show a lot of interest in the changing nature of non-state actors. Today, her research specifically focuses on state institution building, and mobilization strategies. At UCLA, Sima hopes to delve deeper into the study of patronage networks within local state agencies and public education institutions to rework theories on the state formation and nation building.
