ABOUT
Ragui Assaad is a professor at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota, where he is area chair for Global Policy and co-chair of the Master of Development Practice program. He is a Research Fellow of the Economic Research Forum in Cairo, Egypt and serves as a member of its Board of Trustees and as thematic leader for Labor and Human Resource Development. He is also a Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) in Bonn, Germany.
Assaad’s current research focuses on labor markets in the Arab World, with a focus on youth and gender issues as they relate to education, transition from school-to-work, employment and unemployment dynamics, informality, responses to economic shocks, migration, and family formation. His recent publications include two edited books published by Oxford University Press entitled The Egyptian Labor Market in an Era of Revolution (2015) and the Jordanian Labor Market in the New Millennium (2014). He also published several other books, over 50 refereed journal articles and book chapters and a large number of policy briefs.
