ABOUT
Valentina Marcella is Lecturer in Turkish Studies at L’Orientale University of Naples. She was previously Research Fellow at the Istanbul Studies Center of Kadir Has University, Istanbul, and Visiting Researcher at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences in Paris. She obtained her PhD in History and Civilization from the European University Institute of Florence. Her dissertation on the political role of satire in the aftermath of Turkey’s 1980 coup was awarded the James Kaye Memorial Prize for Best Thesis in History and Visuality. She has a background in Middle Eastern (L’Orientale) and Turkish Studies (SOAS). Her research interests cover satire, authoritarian regimes, counterculture, urban development, and Italo-Turkish relations. She is co-founder of the cultural association and online magazine "Kaleydoskop - Turchia, cultura e società".
