ABOUT
For the last twelve years I have been based at the University of Wales in Lampeter teaching and researching both in archaeology and Islamic studies. Whilst at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David I have developed two MA schemes, one in the Archaeology of the Bible Lands and the other in Archaeology of the Mediterranean. At undergraduate level I have taught two main courses; Islamic Art and Architecture 600-1500 and the Art and Architecture of the Ottoman Empire. In addition I have taught a range of more specialists courses including the Islamic archaeology of Palestine, Urbanism in the early Islamic period and Muslim Shrines in Palestine. I have supervised postgraduate students ( MA and PhD) in both archaeology and Islamic studies and acted as an external examiner for research degrees in London (UCL), Helsinki, Durham, LaTrobe Melbourne, Exeter and Paris. In addition I have been external examiner in Archaeology at the University of Manchester and examiner in Islamic Studies at Cardiff University.I have a deep interest and commitment to the cultural heritage of the Middle East and have been involved in a number of projects designed to document, protect and present the heritage of the region. Much of my work is directly involved with the endangered archaeology within the region and I am a specialist advisor to the British Council’s Cultural Protection Fund.
