ABOUT
I am a researcher at the Middle East Centre of the London School of Economics and Political Science. I completed my PhD in Cross-Cultural & Regional Studies at the University of Copenhagen on the genealogy of populism in Turkey. I have conducted research on conflict, polarization, nationalism and populism in SE Europe and the Middle East. I have been Principal Investigator in research projects on Polarization and Democratic Dialogue in Turkish Society, the Lived Experience of Politics in Turkey, Muslim Communities in Europe and am currently Research Officer for a project on Urban Citizenship in Kuwait City and Lead Expert in a Human Rights Cities in Lebanon Project. My most recent book is 'Turkish Politics and The People: Mass Mobilisation and Populism'(Edinburgh UP 2022). I have co-authored 'Islam in Europe: Public Spaces and Civic Networks'(Palgrave Macmillan 2013), 'Tormented by History: Nationalism in Greece and Turkey'(Oxford UP 2008) and co-edited 'Nation and Identity in Contemporary Europe'(Routledge 1996).
