ABOUT
Honari is currently pursuing a PhD in sociology at VU University Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He holds an MA in Sociology in the Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the Interuniversity Center for Social Science Theory and Methodology (ICS) at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands and a BSc in Electrical Power Engineering from the Amir-Kabir University of Technology, Iran. His MA thesis concerns the role of risk in online activism, with a focus on Iran’s Green Movement. The topic of his PhD research is: “The dynamic relationship between off- and online protest participation under circumstances of severe repression”. Using ‘digital methods’ and the Internet ‘scraping’ he also extensively works on big data extracted from the Iranian online sphere. He recently authored the chapter entitled “From virtual to tangible social movements in Iran” for the civil society in Syria and Iran: Activism in authoritarian contexts, Lynne Rinner, 2013.
