ABOUT
Mahinour El-Badrawi is the Senior Programs & Research Officer at the Law and Society Research Unit (LSRU) at the American University in Cairo. She directs research operations related to Law&Society in Egypt Post 2011, including research streams on "Public Space","Economic & Social Affairs", "Law & Security", as well as "Law,Knowledge & the Arts" and "Informal Justice". Before LSRU, El-Badrawi was a researcher at the Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights (ECESR), a Cairo based Human Rights NGO working through research, litigation and advocacy on promoting social and economic rights in Egypt, covering 15 different governorates wherein she was the Director of Research Unit and programs officer for the“Debt and Development” wherein she undergoes monitoring and policy analysis on International Financial Institutions' and Multilateral Development Banks activities and projects in Egypt. She also manager the Center’s partnership with grassroots campaigns on issues on “Environmental Justice” and “Debt Audit”, doing advocacy, policy analysis, and socio-economic research for purposes of strategic litigation. Among others, she also heads the Center’s program on “Political Agendas & Economic and Social Rights”, as well as the file on “Economic and Social Rights in Post-Revolution Constitution of Egypt”. El-Badrawi is currently getting an M.A. degree in International Human Rights Law at the American University in Cairo (AUC), where she also received her B.A. in Political Science, specialized in International Relations and International Law. Before working at ECESR, she has worked as an academic researcher for the Law Department of AUC, as well as the AUC based Social Research Center, where she worked on issues of “Food Sovereignty” and “Urban/Rural Access to Resources”. Before that, she worked as a researcher for the Hisham Mubarak Law Center, specializing in the “Rights of Persons with Disability”.
