Lisa Reber, PhD is a postdoctoral research fellow in the University of Michigan (U-M) Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is a qualitative researcher with a degree in Justice Studies (aka social justice). Her doctoral research explores emotional well-being and socio-spatial marginalization as experienced by low-wage migrant workers from sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. As a research fellow with the University of Michigan’s Center for Disability Health & Wellness (CDHW), she explores the physical, social and attitudinal environments and how they marginalize populations with long-term physical disabilities. She is currently conducting studies that examine how the environment contributes to community participation, quality of life, and overall well-being among various racial and socio-economic communities with long term physical disabilities. Her research interests include social justice, structural inequalities, and vulnerability among disadvantaged communities, the interplay between such factors as race, gender, SES, nationality, disability, and migration status, and the role of privilege in creating inequities
